Mental Transmutations and the Law of Neutralization

Hermeticism — to which alchemy is a leading influence, discusses in numerous forms the idea of mental transmutation — the process of transmuting your thoughts to improve, purify, perfect, expand your mind and, ultimately, your life.

Personally, I’m with those who believe that the Philosopher’s Stone is a well thought out analogy — the entire mythological practice of alchemists turning lead to gold using this stone is simply an analogy for being able to transform our mental states. Why else call it the Philosopher’s Stone?

The Kybalion, written in 1908 — the leading and fundamental Hermetic text beyond the Emerald Tablets, seeks to verify and expand on this notion — that ultimate mental transmutation is the basis of an alchemists purpose.

Two questions to ask: why is this important and how can it be achieved?

If you’re reading this and your happiness level is such that you have zero insecurities or self doubts, never have a bad day, don’t allow anything to make you angry or question yourself, then congratulations — this is not necessarily important to you. However, mental transmutation can be, and in my opinion certainly is, more valuable than the ability to turn lead into gold.
